Helping Your Child’s Voice Bloom

Growing Voices offers speech and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluations and therapy for children with articulation and language needs. We tailor each session to your child’s interests and everyday routines, so learning feels natural and playful, not like work.

Therapy takes place in your home, allowing us to build skills right where your child uses them most. We combine fun, evidence-based approaches with clear, supportive coaching for caregivers, so you feel confident continuing strategies between visits and supporting your child’s progress every day.

Growing Voices Therapy is currently welcoming new pediatric clients for in-home therapy services on Fridays.

Services provided

In-home services are available in Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick. If you are located outside of these areas, please feel free to reach out to discuss whether Telehealth therapy might be a good option for your family.
  • At Growing Voices Therapy, we provide speech-language evaluations and individualized therapy for Articulation and Phonological Disorders, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders, and Pragmatic Social Language Disorders. Therapy may target:

    • Producing sounds more clearly so your child is better understood by family, teachers, and friends

    • Building vocabulary, sentence structure, and storytelling skills for stronger expression

    • Improve listening, following directions, and understanding language in everyday situations

    • Develop social communication skills like turn-taking, conversation skills, perspective-taking, and flexible language use in play and school settings

Every plan is tailored to your child’s strengths, goals, and interests, and we partner with families and outside therapy providers to support progress across settings.

  • Need help finding the right voice for your child? At Growing Voices we can help you trial a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices to find the best fit for your child.

    • We complete AAC evaluations and prepare funding packets so families have the documentation they need to request device coverage.

    • We help families set up their AAC device and personalize it when it arrives. This includes programming vocabulary, setting up appropriate access methods, and providing caregiver training.

    • We provide ongoing therapy to teach the child to communicate their wants and needs across home, school, and community settings.

    • Therapy focuses on functional goals, carryover strategies, partner training, and building independence with the device.

  • We offer telehealth speech therapy for families across Washington state who live too far for in-home visits. Our remote sessions use a HIPAA-compliant platform to keep your child’s privacy safe while delivering engaging, effective therapy. Telehealth therapy includes:

    • Live, one-on-one sessions with a licensed speech-language pathologist.

    • Home-friendly activities and materials you can access or we’ll provide digitally.

    • Caregiver coaching so you can support progress between sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does your child struggle to pronounce sounds, have a small or limited vocabulary, have trouble following directions, or find it hard to start and keep conversations and play with others? Speech therapy can help! Our fun, play-based sessions target sound production, build words and phrases, improve listening and understanding, and can help teach social communication skills so your child can express themselves clearly and confidently.

  • Interested in getting started with speech therapy for your child? Contact us below and we'll reach out to schedule a brief 10–15 minute free consultation to review your concerns, answer questions, and determine whether a speech or AAC evaluation is warranted. If an evaluation is recommended, we'll assess your child's communication skills and discuss concerns, goals, and personalized recommendations to support their growth.

  • Yes, we currently accept Premera Blue Cross, Regence, Kaiser, and Coordinated Care.

We are able to provide superbills for possible reimbursement if your insurance is not accepted.

  • In-home therapy lets us meet you where life actually happens — at the kitchen table, in the living room, or during snack time. Practicing skills in a familiar, real-world setting makes learning more functional, meaningful, and easier to generalize. We can coach parents and caregivers in-the-moment, adapt strategies to your unique routines, and address challenges as they pop up naturally.

  • Therapy sessions are 45 minutes, including 40 minutes of direct therapy with the child and 5 minutes of parent coaching. The parent coaching portion focuses on strategies to help support and reinforce the skills learned during the session at home throughout the week.

Currently, therapy sessions are available once per week.

About Me

Hi there! I’m Karleen Michael, a certified pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist who is passionate about helping children find their voice and supporting families along the way.

I earned both my undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Kansas and spent six years working in a pediatric hospital in Denver, Colorado, where I was part of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) team. This experience fostered a love for helping children use AAC to communicate with confidence and partnering with families to make communication strategies practical and meaningful in everyday life.

In 2023, my husband and I moved to the Tri-Cities, and in June 2025 we welcomed our son. Becoming a mom has deepened my passion for supporting children and families as they grow, learn, and communicate. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and exploring local parks and favorite spots around the Tri-Cities.
